'elbow grease' is needed to pass our exams. meaning - hard work or to give an effort.
i would like to use this idiom in my compositions. (:
A white lie means a lie that is told to avoid offending someone or hurting his / her feelings.
Example: The cake that Susan made tasted terrible, but I knew that
she made it because she wanted to please me, so when she
asked if I liked it, I told a white lie and said it was good.
I could use it in a story about sensitive people.
Someone's made his/her own bed; now let him/her lie in it.: Someone has caused
his/her own problems; he/she will have to solve them himself/herself.
Examples:A: Jim upset everyone when he got angry at the meeting. Can we do anything
to make the situation better?
B: No. He's made his own bed; now let him lie in it."
i could use it in composition about people create their own problems.
A phrasal verb: 'egg on' means to urge / encourage greatly toward doing something (usually something negative).
Example: At first Bob and Chuck were just having a mild argument, but Bob's friends egged them on until they started fighting.
I could use the phrase "egg on" when two naughty and cowardly children are trying to do something nasty.
Jokes:
1.Q: What are two things people never eat before breakfast?
2.Q: What do tigers have that no other animals have?
Answers:
1.A: Lunch and supper.
2.A: Baby tigers.
A new vocabulary item: Falconer
It means a person who keeps and trains falcons, often for hunting.
This word will be useful in a composition about hunting wild animals.
The teacher says: Today, we're going to talk about the tenses. Now, if I say "I am beautiful," which tense is it?
A Tense Joke
The student says: Obviously it's the past tense.

Past Tense: I was beautiful.
This is funny because the teacher isn't beautiful now, but maybe she was beautiful when she was younger.
