Term 3 Run Down

Very tough term it was. Lots of interruptions as usual; many class activities compromised by rush towards preparation for the orals and then the orals themselves. I noticed lots of down time by both teachers and students. Time wasting. This is bad when you consider that next year you guys will be entering Form 4. I hope you're reading as much as possible. The best students in the O Levels are those who can read well. Ramadan shortened classes considerably. Looking at all you guys so tired and hungry, wow you're brave doing such a thing to your bodies. I couldn't do it. So up next is Term 4. Just a couple of weeks before the exams, so we'll be doing the practice test in the workbook, some reading in the text book, and gathering a list of ideas and techniques for writing a story. See you then!

Hey. I'm Ummi Wiqa' but my friends usually call me Wiq and my guy-friends call me Qa. So it's kind of wierd if a guy call me Wiq and a girl call me Qa. I'm 13 and I go to a Science College in Muara, Brunei Darussalam. I like things which is kind of a hardcore rock material. My world revolves around music. Music is my higher power and it controlls all my emotions. I listen to a type of music called 'emocore' which is short for emotive hardcore. Screamo is the best. Those are bands like The Used(which s my favourite), Love Like Electrocution, Clip The Apex, Niel Perry, Ape Shit, The Khayembii Communique, I Would Set Myself On Fire For You and Herbrightskies. I play the guitar, sing and dance. I have a keyboard in my room which I've learnt to play when I was seven. My cousin taught me to play the drums. But I play my guitar most than any other. If you ask me, if I could go any where, where would I go, I would say far away from reality. I'm sensitive, shy, introverted and often quiet, except when I'm with my friends. Hello once again Form 4 students ...

Today and tomorrow your task will be to rewrite (omG!) the paper/s that you wrote for the exam (ergh!) you took last week.

This exercise will provide EXAMPLES for students to use next year, when we/they/you need to do these sorts of exams (ergh!) again. So this is a good thing to do and you will benefit not only yourselves now, but also yourselves and each other, in the future.

This is your opportunity to actually learn from the red pen that is dancing across your pages (do you like that metaphor? - or do you think that "bleeding into the paper" is a better one?). Hmmm ... I prefer the dancing one ...
Anyhow, use that red pen and your writing in your first draft to revise / redraft your Section A paper 1s. You can add or change your original ideas.

You also need to put a short "Preface" to your writing which gives your opinion of your story; introducing the reader to it.

I see some of you are really stressed because of the exam...

well don't get too fed up because here is some good tips from the net...

Use deep breathing - breathe in through your nose down to your stomach, hold your breath, and breathe out through your mouth.

Get aerobic exercise daily.

Take a walk, even a very short one when you’'re upset.

Practice yoga or tai chi or progressive relaxation.

Enjoy the soothing aspects of water -– swim or take a bath or a shower.

Make time to talk to friends and family members.

Pet and play with an animal.

Listen to or play uplifting music.

Read an inspiring book, sing a song, recite a poem.

Spend time in nature.

Avoid black and white thinking –- few things in life are hopeless.

Choose positive thoughts -– paste them on your mirror.

Restrict your viewing of upsetting media.

Pick your battles –- you can'’t solve every problem.

Dance has played a large part in life. We used to and still do dance in many different ways. People perform dances to entertain, express feelings, tell stories, and much more. It is also breathtaking to see ballet or exhilarating to see a tap dance. People who don't know about dance are missing out. So for those of you missing out and everyone else, we are going to teach you everything to our knowledge about dance.

Folk-Folk dancing is a form of social dancing. Folk has become part of the customs of people. Well-known folk dances are square dancing, the Irish jig, and the polka. Most folk dances develop in small villages of people. Folk dances are usually past down fro generation-to-generation. Folk dances usually have tones of history buried in their pasts. Folk is a very fun dance to perform.

Disco and Hip Hop- Most disco dances have strong roots in Swing, Samba, Cha Cha, Mambo, Meringue, Fox Trot and Tango. The Hustle is believed to be originated in New York in 1970. The Hustle had gone through many variations in the 70s. There were line dances for groups of Hustler, and partnership dances for partners of course. The partnership dances included the basic Hustle, Latin, Tango and Spanish Hustle. There was also Street, the most popular of all the partnership dances. Street was also called Three-count, or Swing Hustle. Street originated in California as the Street Hustle by skaters in Venice and Malibu.

Hip Hop dance is performed to funk, rap, RnB, or hip hop music. Most hip hop emphasizes power moves. Break dancing, a form of hip hop uses acrobatics and gymnastics. There are many shuffles and sweeps. One popular move is the “Pop N Lock”. Hip hop has been around for a while but is now getting popular in dance studios for young girls and boys.

Waltz and Polka-During the beginning of the 18th century was when waltz was first starting to be made up. But yet even though it started that long ago it didn’t reach the United States until 1834.

A description of what you would see if you were to watch people dance this glorious dance would be; colorful flowing ball gowns smooth steps elegant music with strong melodies. Waltz is danced with a ¾ melody along with a strong first beat. When you dance the waltz you are moving and gliding in a lively way with a conspicuous manner.

Polka is a couple dance that is defined as a vivacious dance. Polka is of bohemian origin. A kind of funny thing about polka is it was made by a little girl one day in 1834. The little girl had just done for her own entertainment. It must be great entertainment because it is still around today. Polka is said to be around for a long long time.

Tap and Salsa- Tap is said to be a truly American art form. Origins of tap dance can be traced back to antebellum south when a group of African American slaves who adept at coping Irish jigs, Virginia reels and Lancashire clogging, and made up their own dance mixed with some African style rhythms. The shoes vary. The can have hard toes or soft toes. They can have many heights in heels. They always have a metal tap on the bottom of the toe and heel. But now it’s making its way back into this world. After years tap died It is now making its way back into the world.

Not a lot is known of the history of Salsa but a few things. These are some of those few things known about its history. Salsa is made up of a lot of Latin and afro-Caribbean dances. Salsa is similar to mambo because they both have a pattern of six steps that are danced over eight counts of music. It is also known that New York created the term salsa.

If you listen to today’s Salsa music you can hear the base of son’. You can also hear Cumbia, Guaracha, and you will also hear the Merengue built in the rhythm of different songs. Salsa can very from one place to another. In New York they added more instruments and in other parts of the world they have change a lot of other things too.

Ballet and Pointe-Ballet is a form of dance that uses the body to tell a story express feeling, or just reflect music. Ballet dances have to have technique, discipline, skill, and flexibility. It was formed in Western Europe during the Renaissance.

Ballet was a man’s sport. Women couldn’t participate in the way men could, that was mainly because of their clothes. The men got to wear tights to make it easier for them to move. Women had to wear heavy wigs and huge headdresses. They also had to wear heavy skirts, shoes with heels. Don’t forget their tight corsets that made it really hard to breath.

Pointe is a variation of ballet that has you dancing on the very tip of your toes. The shoes you wear have hard toes. Pointe shoes are still made of the same material they were made of in the early 1700s. Pointe shoes are made of leather, burlap, paper, glue and nails.

Most people can’t start Pointe until they are about 11 or 12. Your ankles have to be fully developed or you may suffer deformation. Pointe is almost always hard for people to learn. People usually start out doing ballet before they start Pointe.

Jazz and Swing-After World War 1 when all of the solders came home every one wanted to socialize with each other so what better to do than go out for a night of dancing. What type of dance was better for this occasion than Jazz.

Jazz has many origins New Orleans, St. Louis, Memphis and Kansas City are just a few places Jazz has originated from. But New Orleans is said to be the most important of its origins.

The first jazz bands contained a rhythm section” consisting of a string bass, drums, and a guitar or banjo. It also had a melodic section consisting of a trombone, a clarinet, and sometimes even a violin. Years later, jazz was taken over by large orchestras a "society jazz band" contained fifteen or more musicians. Today, there is a renewed interest in the "big band" era, even though the music has very little to do with real jazz.

Swings history dates back to the 1920s, with the discovery of the lindy hop and the jitter bug came the development of Swing.

Swing dancing is one of Americas favorite past times. Even though it is a great American past time in other parts of the world very little of it is known. Once swing earned its place many different forms of it started to form. Here are just a few of those styles.

Savoy swing- A style of swing from New York Savory Ballroom in the 30s and 40s.

Lindy-a smoother looking type of swing

West coast swing- a style of swing that needs nimble feet. It was most popular in California night clubs in the 1930s and 402.

Whip- a style of swing that is most popular in Houston Texas. Whip emphasizes moves spinning the partner in between moves.

Those are just a few of the many styles of swing.

Lyrical and Acro-Lyrical is a mix of jazz and ballet. The music usually has a person singing, apposed to just music. Body movement like in many other dances is used to express feeling. Lyrical dancing is usually danced to slow music. It is a very beautiful form of dance.

Dancing Acro style is almost like a sport. It consists of tumbling, dance and acrobatic skills. Acro was made by the federal of sports acrobatics. Acro can be a hard style of dance to learn if you haven’t already learned acrobatic skills. But all in all people who have done Acro say it’s a fun and great experience.

Manga is the Japanese word for comics. It is used in the English-speaking world as a generic term for all comic books and graphic novels that were originally published in Japan. However, Manga is often considered an artistic and storytelling style that can also encompass non-Japanese works. The term AmeriManga is sometimes used to refer to comics created by American artists in a Manga style. Manwha is the Korean equivalent of that idea.

In Japan, Manga is either read in serialized form in monthly magazines or comic books or in graphic novels, book-length comics. All three formats exist in translation, but graphic novels are much more common and can fill a number of shelves at the local comic shop or bookstore.
When most people think of comics in the United States, they usually think of superheroes and the comic strips that appear in newspapers. Outside of a devoted fan base, comics don't garner much respect as art or literature. In Japan, comics are highly popular with males and females of all ages and walks of life. The amount of money spent on Mangaeach year numbers in the billions.
Part of Manga's popularity is that there is a title for anyone, no matter what his or her interests. From the kid-friendly adventures of Pokémon to the adult underworld drama of Sanctuary, Manga includes every conceivable genre. Mangastory lines are known for their depth and complexity, and series contain from two volumes to 20+ books.

While each artist has his or her own style, there are a few things that give Manga a distinctive look. Drawings are typically done in pen and ink, with an emphasis on clean lines. Except for highly realistic series, most characters have very large, almond-shaped eyes and other out-of-proportion body parts. In all but the most serious stories, characters also show their emotions quite clearly, and sometimes comically; Manga artists manipulate their character's eyes and mouth and include special devices, such as a sweat drop on the forehead to depict worry.

Manga is closely related to anime, or Japanese animation. Some Manga series are adaptations of popular anime television shows or movies, and vice versa. Anime is drawn in much the same artistic style.

Today, many people in Japan enjoy different styles of music like J-Pop (Japanese Pop), J-Rock (Japanese Rock), and even the old traditional music. There are many styles and bands and singers out in Japan who can create beautiful music, even if you don’t understand a single word they say in Japanese. Today, there are so many artists, you just can’t keep track of them.
Some of the singers that exist in modern day Japan are people like BoA VALENTI, Utada Hikaru, Ai Otsuka, and Tomoyasu Hotei. Most of these singers here are pretty young for their age, and have landed many achievements. BoA is actually from South Korea, but is famous both in her hometown and in Japan. She landed her debut in 2001, her being only 15 years old, this was a huge hit for her.

Yuna Ito

Utada Hikaru is also a very young performer in the J-Pop world. Utada was born in the year of 1983, and her debut was landed in 1999, another young age singer, who is still a hit to Japan. She may not show up on TV often, but shows up in unexpected places, and her voice heard everywhere, even in video games like Kingdom Hearts.

There are also many bands out there in the J-Rock world like Asian Kung-Fu Generation, GLAY, BLEACH, and many, many more. Many of the bands and singers out in Japan sign up with famous dealers like Sony, Toshiba-EMI, and Island Def Jam. Some of the bands like GLAY and EXILE sometimes join together for a short while and make some albums together for more publicity.

Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Today, most of the Japanese music, is made by the ‘young crowd’ or as we would probably say, teenagers. Most of the music would sound like some foreigner to us trying to speak Latin and having a very hard time. But actually, the music means a lot to the Japanese people, and the artist. Most of the music is about peoples’ lives, sad times, or about an object even. Music is a key to people and understanding them. During World War II, music was a way to escape from all the horrors that were going on and helped to soothe people and calm them down. Since music was created, even till now, music is an important part of peoples’ lives and means many things. Different styles of music relate to different groups of people and each means something different

Here are some fashion styles common in different countries. Maybe you can find out what's yours. There are many types of fashion styles, although I only managed to fish out 3. Oh well =_=, but do enjoy it.

Men: There seems to be two big styles out that dominate the men’s fashion scene. The first, and more respected, is the semi-casual look. This is especially popular around the fall and winter seasons. They typically look like a coat or blazer one would wear with a business suit, though nowadays it’s not uncommon to see decorative stitching and interesting seams. These are often combined with a hooded sweatshirt underneath. The blazer is left open to show the design, pattern, or color of the sweatshirt below. Then a pair of comfortable jeans are thrown on with a matching belt (because jeans never go out of fashion). On their feet men sport anything from the popular slip on (popularized by the Vans shoe company) to a simple dress shoe that matches in color.

The second style is the hip-hop style. One can see it in almost every industrialized nation, especially America and most European countries. It involves baggy (overly big) pants, baggy shirts, and baggy anything else that can be baggy. This often creates problems with pants falling down, being a bit too revealing, but the shirt helps with the cover-up. Stylized baseball caps have become hugely popular with whole companies springing up to make the perfect hat to match the outfit. When it comes to colors, bolder is better. Huge chunks of oranges, neon greens, and yellows are splashed on over white or black t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Women: Women’s urban fashion can’t really be divided into two specific categories because it has become a “hodge-podge” of different styles. For instance, the tights-under-the-skirt look of the 80’s is mixed with wild mix of patterns common to the bohemian ideals. However, there are certain things that can be seen in all areas of this crazy blend. The first of these is ballerina slippers, commonly known as "flats". They have become the staple of all of women’s fashion diets. They are worn with almost everything, whether that is a pair of jeans, a skirt, or a dress.

No matter the clothing, the color is the most important. Black is still in, mostly because it is associated with business and looking trim, but black is rarely seen on its own anymore. Bursts of color are the thing. Combinations of blacks or neutrals with stripes of pink, yellow, and other bright colors are seen in every department store across the world. The same can be seen with make-up. Black mascara is seen with eyelids dazzled with outlandish metallic blues and greens.

Men: This style was first introduced to men as “hippie”. They took advantage of the comfort and wore their clothes loose, bright and flowing. It was meant to represent peace, happiness and love for the world. This fashion started to be influenced by Indian styles as the years past, creating a somewhat “grunge” appearance in the early 1990’s. Plaid was used as top layer widely among men. The idea was to not match but still look fashionable. They succeeded and along with past influences, men today still use this rule when following or creating their own style of bohemian.

Women: The flowing, soft fabrics were used because of the practicality and femininity. And last the accessories were the finishing touch. The more the better and the women used this idea for chunky wooden bracelets and countless long necklaces. They were usually hand made with beads that had dark colors to contrast with the outfit. The next trendsetter in the bohemian history would be the eco-friendly people of the 1960s. They represented everything bohemian, from the fashion sense to the relaxed and positive mindset. It started with the hair that was intended to be free and untamed. So a popular trend of bohemian would be long hair that represented everything natural. It cascaded over loose fitting bright tops as well as tight pants with neutral tones of brown. Long skirts with alternate layers were also common.

Women: Many women like wearing vintage because of the feminine cuts that were popular at the time they were made. Wearing vintage head-to-toe though can be overpowering. Instead, try mixing new and old garments, like a vintage cardigan with jeans.

Men: The majority of men’s vintage fashion includes old jackets. These jackets are made out of “manly”, durable materials like leather, wool, or fur, so finding a jacket in good condition should be relatively easy. Back then, it was popular for men to wear long, wool trench-style overcoats or shorter, leather bomber jackets. Now however, both men and women can wear these styles, as well as military style coats, which come in colors ranging from khaki to black.

In a world of rapidly advancing technology, it is hard to ignore the Internet which is becoming more and more centric to the lives of users worldwide. Yet the convenience the electronic age provides come with a price. The ugly truth is that the Internet is as addictive as it is useful. Unrestrained or unsupervised, users of the Web will find themselves invariably and unwittingly chained by the shackles of the addictive elements of the Internet.

What is I.A.D (Internet Addiction Disorder)?:

It's a speculated mental disorder made and introduced by Ivan Goldberg, M.D., in 1995. It is an addiction that closely parallels the other addictions such as drug and pathological gambling addiction and is potentially just as damaging.

I like reading books than doing HOMEWORK!! (Homework is your MORTAL ENEMY) I like music cause sometimes people make it from what they think.
I can sing (NOT!!)I'm just doing this cause Sir Lance slash Jackson slash Lan-Son? Hahaha sorry Sir!!! I just can't control myself!! Hahahaha!! its been soo long since I used my laptop. Back to the subject, I like music (Well who doesn't?). Reading books are also 1 of my favourite stuff to do when I'm at home doing nothing other than listening to music. I read fiction books, manga, not novels, not school notes (Well just a little bit), not those big dictionaries (Who ever tries to read them must be CRAZY... no offence to anybody who does) and all those big and thick books that other people read. Homework... the word 'home' and 'work' should never be together... (If the person who created homework is still alive he is soo DEAD but he is!! Hahaha) As you can tell I never did enjoy, liked, loved and cared about homework but a must is must. Its either do my homework or some serius nagging (Lets just make it uhhh... 'Lecturing') from the teachers =.=' so I guess homework is meant to torture your life? NOT!! I only like homework when its about using computers/laptop cause i LOVE going online, chatting and surfing the net!! Woo Hooo!! Sir Lance/Jackson 'YOU ROCK!!!' Well... guess that's all see ya~~

I enjoy reading, writing and projects involving groupwork, for example, plays. I like sports, art and playing musical instruments equally, as I feel all of them are epually challanging. I am weak in areas like grammar, vocabulary and spelling. Problem-solving is ,to my eyes , something worthwhile. I love answering IQ questions and trick ones at that. If you have got a good one, be sure to post it in the comments part! I like having classes out from the class, for example in the library or in the reading room once in a while, instead of being restricted to only the classroom. Dividing into groups occasionally would be fun like quizes. I loath spelling tests, but a little homework now and again would be great. Books are the best in my opinion.

Hello there, fellow friends. Since this is my first time posting, I shall introduce myself as commanded by Sir Lance slash Mr. Jackson. I'm bad with words so pardon me for commencing this 'composition' in a very corny way; my name is Nur Ainina Shairah and I'm twelve years old, though my age doesn't compute with my maturity. First of all, I'm not a person with too many likes but I fancy mesmerising European football players such as Fabregas and Fernando Torres. Also, I can't seem to resist the temptation of consuming rich and creamy chocolate. Music is my life. I enjoy emmersing myself into various genres of music, particularly classic rock. I'm not a huge fan of modern rock, which is highly influenced by heavy metal and a sick genre called 'screamo'. There are things that, in my opinion, should have never existed; namely homework. Speaking of which, it occurred to me that there is not one thing that interests me in school other than meeting friends. Exams are a burden and studying is a nuisance. I'd be more than thankful if I was a genius. I'm also not very keen on fashion and shopping for clothes. I don't see the point in trying on so many clothes just to go with the trend. Why can't we all just wear an oversized shirt and a pair of baggy trousers and be happy? Now that you've realised what an incredibly hardworking person I am, it shouldn't take long for you to establish that I have many ambitions in mind. Sarcasm aside, I'm very passionate about being a doctor. I feel that the world can never have too many doctors and for the sake of humanity, I wish to save lives. I'm aware that such dreams will remain as fantasies at the rate that I'm studying and going to school against my will. But I assure you that, if not sooner, then later, I will gradually improve my lifestyle in my quest to achieve my goals. And I've come to and end. My thanks to you for your time. Cheers.

Let me prove it, in sports there are rules, steps and I also have to have skills to be good in it and in music, I have to know how to play a musical instrument and to know that, I have to also know the notes ans steps, and even if i can sing, i would have to find a beat and lyrics that fit in with the music, and I believe tat art is easier than the other activities. My ambition is to become a dentist or any career that has something to do with my interests.Between playing the piano, photography and drawing, I would choose drawing.
